I have been off the blog bandwagon for a while...
I have no excuse...
I just didn't feel like it.
I am ashamed.
Okay...not really. But still...
Did you miss me?
I missed you.
I'm sorry I let work and diapers and dishes and laundry and reading and the general strife of life to get between us.
So, I've just finished the book The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell.
It was simply amazing, beautiful and inspiring. It was joyous and sad and fast paced and methodical. There are a million reviews online, so I won't go on about the plot, but I will say that it is listed as Sci-Fi, which is like saying a house is made of concrete just because that's what the foundation is made of. The science fiction part of the plot is just a catalyst for the story, which is about the search for meaning and God and family and what happens to those things amidst tragedy and personal pain. It's not overtly religious and gives a wonderful insight into the lives of Jesuit priests and shows a completely different (and much more realistic) side that you would never see in Hollywood. Russell also doesn't pull any punches as far as the reality of the characters and situations go. There is some cursing but it is used in places that make sense and is not at all gratuitous.
I plan on reading it again. Books like this are like paintings, to me...every time you go back you see something wonderful that you didn't see before. Then, I plan on reading the sequel, Children of God.
On another note, our Haiti benefit show was a little disappointing. We advertised like crazy (even on TV!) and only about 40 people came. We had some generous donations, though, and the music was AWESOME. Everyone did a fabulous job. In the end, even though there was not a big turnout, it was great.
Brad has two shows left in February, this Saturday and next, so make it out if you can! You can see the dates and places as well as new songs and video on Brad's facebook page. Come check it out, and leave a comment so we know you were there!
Hee hee...I just opened the front door and guess what was there? A package from The Coffee Girl! I'll be posting more on that on Hello!Marysville real soon!
