"In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.” ~Albert Camus
I thought of heat and burning feet
of tides and rolling waves
I used to equate summer with hate
of oppressive shimmering sweat
an inescapable none too quickly replaceable
time of nights with too little sleep.
But take winter which causes a splinter
between inside and outside severe
with that season at least there's a reason
to fear, being numb is a frightening estate.
It is clear to me that it must simply be
a contrast between to the two times
to show and then carefully know
how much a soul's season must be regarded.
For when ice and snow, nice and slow
creep into the heart of a woman or man
it feels chill at worst, gasping first
but then suddenly doesn't seem real
and on and on a person just carries on
trudging up that lonely dark hill.
When suddenly frigid solidarity
is realized and spoken with vapor-breath,
"I am all alone and I can't find my home."
to the quietly falling snow and none else.
To compare that hill walked with keen skill
in the light of a warm cloudless day
the sun in it's arch lets us follow 'till dark
even then the moon shows us the way.
There are frogs singing songs
and even crickets to cheer
and by remembering our dismembering
we feel, which is better than not
and though sad we're made glad
and can sing our own joy
All because of the love of
an internal, eternal, invincible summer.
Kim, that's got all sorts of yummy to it. I love the seasonal imagery and the hope. Makes me want to write today. Thanks
